Prof. Dr. Volkan Okatan was born (1981) in Tokat, Turkey. He received his B.Sc. degree from Gaziosmanpaşa University, Faculty of Agriculture in 2007. He received his M.Sc. degree in Fruit Growing and Breeding from the same faculty of the university in 2011. Master's thesis topic was about the selection of pomegranate fruit (Punica granatum). He started to work as a lecturer at Uşak University in 2012. In the same year, he started his doctorate education at the Department of Horticulture, Faculty of Agriculture of Süleyman Demirel University and graduated in 2016. His doctoral thesis was titled "The effects of different growing systems on the yield and quality of currant cultivation". He received the title of Assoc. Prof. Dr. in 2019. He has been working as an Assoc. Prof. Dr. at Department of Horticulture, Faculty of Agriculture, Eskişehir Osmangazi University since 2021.

Volkan Okatan studies growing berries and their chemical contents. He has more than 100 scientific articles and most of these articles are about berry species (currants, strawberry, blackberry, raspberry, blueberry, etc.).

He is on the editorial board of many impact factor journals.
